چکیده

clarify if the spectrophotometric analysis of spent dialysate may allow the possibility to monitor the removal of β2M during HD. These results were obtained from the analyses of serum and spent dialysate samples of the 22 MHD patients (16 men, 6 women) of a previous study, where we confirmed the possibility to monitor the removal of small molecules, namely uric acid, by spectrophotometric analysis (J Nephrol). Serum and spent dialysate concentrations of β2M were measured with an immunonephelometric method (Siemens, BNAII) and compared with absorbance and fluorescence values. The sampling protocol, the analytical procedure, the instrumentation and the statistical methods have been previously described [5] .

Effect of cool vs. warm dialysate on toxin removal: rationale and study design

BACKGROUND Cool dialysate is often recommended for prevention of intra-dialytic hypotensive episodes in maintenance hemodialysis (HD) patients. However, its effect on toxin removal is not studied. It is known that inter-compartmental resistance is the main barrier for toxin removal. Cool dialysate can potentially increase this resistance by vasoconstriction and thus impair the toxin removal. Th...

Influence of heparin molecular size on the induction of C-terminal unfolding in β2-microglobulin

Dialysis-related amyloidosis (DRA) is characterized by accumulation of amyloid β2-microglobulin (β2m) in the interstitial matrix. Matrix substances such as heparin have reportedly been strongly implicated in the pathogenesis of dialysis-related amyloidosis. In clinical setting of hemodialysis, two types of heparin, i.e., high and low molecular heparin (H.M.H. and L.M.H.) have been routinely use...

بررسی سیر تحمل گلوکز و بتادومیکروگلبولین ادرار پس از پیوندکلیه و رابطه‌ی آن با پیش‌آگهی کوتاه مدت کلیه‌ی پیوندی

Background and Objective: Post-transplant diabetes mellitus (PTDM) is one of the problems occurring after kidney transplantation. This study was designed to detect the probable relationship between the glucose intolerance and serum and urinary concentrations of β2-microglobulin as well as their value to predict acute rejection of the transplant. Materials and Methods: In this cohort study, 40 p...

The use of SDS–PAGE scanning of spent dialysate to assess uraemic toxin removal by dialysis

BACKGROUND Uraemic toxins in the 8 to 60 kDa molecular weight range have been attracting increasing attention in dialysis therapy. However, there are no available standardized methods to evaluate their removal. Using new filtering membranes, we evaluated SDS-PAGE of spent dialysate to assess cut-off ranges and removal capacities into dialysate, while also measuring classical markers of dialyser...

Study of Dialyzer Membrane (Polyflux 210H) and Effects of Different Parameters on Dialysis Performance

Problems frequently encountered in kidney malfunction include abnormal fluid levels in the body, increased acid levels, abnormal levels of Urea, Glucose, Endothelin, β2-Microglobulin and Complement Factor D. Parameters characterizing the structure of dialyzers are very important because they decide overall clearance of toxin molecules and at the same time should allow retaining useful molecules...
